Living And Loving

If I could change anything for you or me
Or if I could change the world in any way
I would find the gentleness you think you lack.
I would speak of love, of living, of growing old.
I would mention days of yesterday,
But only in passing

Because...
Yesterday is gone and faded into memory.
I'll look into the future
The future which has become so short
And therefore so precious to me, to you

I could never speak of things I care about
I could never tell you about the past
You would never understand.

I can tell you about the future and be kind,
I can tell you about what it means to be me
I am not that person
Anymore.

I ceased chasing rainbows but have not stopped
To look at little things like dew falling from leaves,
I pick at flower petals like years in a life.

I kiss a little boy goodbye and hope
I'll see him grow up.
But if not
I have today and I had yesterday.
My tomorrows may never happen
But my todays and yesterdays exist.

Love can happen in many ways
Right or wrong, time is short
And time we don't have.
Let's use what we may yet have to spend
Until that day we say goodbye
When everything ceases to exist

And then...
it won't matter anymore.

So don't shed any tears
I lived the way
I was meant to live.
