My relatives...Don't be afraid to sing

Ogoshlala has given everything a way to communicate to the spirit.

Talk to the Grandfathers through our songs.....

Then our hearts.

~Nemacolin~

Along the banks of the Monongahela
lived three tribes called the Mound People.
They were a peaceful people of
Lenape, Shawnee and Iroquois.

The women spent their time working fields
of beans, corn, squash and sunflowers,
while the men hunted in the forests
for animals during daylight hours.

There was a young brave
who was named Nemacolin.
He spent his days near the river
searching for his spirit within.

One day he came across some tiny stones
that glowed like nothing he'd ever seen before.
As he picked them up, he heard a voice from above,
My son..."I give to you what you seek and more.

These stones hold the secrets of the universe.
They will enlighten you and protect you
as you go forth to all your relatives
and teach them the words I give to you".

The brave young warrior dropped the stones
And before him the galaxy appeared in the shadow of the sun
and showed him the commandments of the Great Grandfather.
He traveled far and wide spreading these Words to everyone.

His elders came to him to seek his wisdom.
He was known and respected across the land.
The Chiefs of all nations came to meet with him
and admired such a profound, loving spirit in this young brave
that all the tribes agreed to live in harmony with one another
and to live in peace with the white man.
